Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is dedicated to supporting those who have selflessly served our country. Since 2003, the organization has been committed to meeting the evolving needs of warriors, their families, and caregivers, and empowering them to reach their highest aspirations. Specifically focused on the post-9/11 generation of injured service members, WWP ensures they receive the care, attention, and support they rightfully deserve. Through a range of services in mental health, physical health, peer connection, career counseling, and financial wellness, WWP positively transforms lives. These comprehensive services are provided free of charge to warriors, guaranteeing they receive the essential care they require.
The mission of aiding wounded warriors is close to the heart of Charlie Chase, the CEO of California Closets. Each summer, Charlie, alongside a group of friends, organizes a special weekend dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of wounded service men and women, along with their families. The highlight of this weekend is an unforgettable deep-sea fishing excursion, allowing some participants to experience this adventure for the first time and creating lasting memories for all.
Recently, the group welcomed 47 individuals who had endured mental and physical trauma while serving in the U.S. Special Forces. With the assistance of fifteen boat owners, offering vessels ranging from 34′ to 62′, each boat accommodated 3-4 service members, along with 2-3 volunteer mates.
“Among my four servicemen were two Navy Seals and two Army Rangers. I had the support of two volunteer mates on board to assist us. The weather was rough but we were all tough enough to get through it,” Charlie shared. “And, of course, the beer and vodka may have helped,” he added jokingly.
This special event is the culmination of lot of planning and the generous support of sponsors and donors, including individuals and local businesses. Approximately $200,000 is invested to orchestrate the entire event, but the immeasurable impact it has on these remarkable warriors and their families is truly priceless.
